Companies Using the CCAT: Employer Guides & Test Prep
The Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test may appear in some recruitment processes, but a company name alone cannot confirm the assessment you will receive.
Employers can change assessment providers, use different tests for different roles, or configure different processes by location, seniority, department and recruitment campaign.
The most reliable source is the current assessment invitation.

Important Employer-Test Notice
A company may use the CCAT for one vacancy and a different assessment for another. It may also stop using a previous provider.
Before selecting preparation, confirm:
- the exact assessment name;
- the publisher or platform;
- the number of questions or games;
- the time limit;
- the permitted materials;
- whether several assessments are assigned;
- the deadline and device instructions.
Do not purchase preparation solely because an employer appears in an old list, portfolio-company article, candidate forum or third-party test-preparation page.

How to Confirm the Test
Exact CCAT Name
If the invitation says Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test or CCAT, prepare for the standard CCAT unless the live instructions specify an approved variation.
Criteria or HireSelect Only
These names may identify the provider or assessment environment rather than the individual test. Open the official assessment center and identify each assigned assessment.
UCAT
The Criteria Universal Cognitive Aptitude Test is a different, language-independent assessment with 40 questions and a 20-minute limit. Use the Criteria UCAT guide.
Another Provider
Prepare for the test actually named. Do not use CCAT practice when the invitation clearly identifies SHL, Wonderlic, another assessment company or an employer-specific exercise.
Standard CCAT Format
When the CCAT is confirmed, expect:
| Feature | Standard CCAT |
|---|---|
| Questions | 50 |
| Time limit | 15 minutes |
| Ability areas | Verbal Ability, Math and Logic, Spatial Reasoning |
| Calculator | Not permitted |
| Wrong-answer penalty | No additional penalty |
| Raw score | Number answered correctly |
| Comparative result | Percentile relative to a norm group |
| Results recipient | Employer or administering organization |
Criteria uses a dynamic assessment drawing from a large item bank. Do not rely on a memorized question list or one fixed category distribution.
Employer-Specific Scores
There is no publicly verified universal passing score applying to every company and role.
Be cautious with claims such as:
Company A always requires 35.
Company B rejects everyone below 30.
Every applicant needs the 80th percentile.
A candidate report or old preparation page does not prove:
- a permanent cutoff;
- a rule for every vacancy;
- the same benchmark in every country;
- continued use of the same assessment;
- an identical applicant context.
The employer may use a position-associated suggested range, a custom benchmark, comparative review, several assessments or no automatic cutoff.
Read the CCAT score-by-job guide and score-report guide.
